39th Annual Plant, Book and Bake Sale
April 16, 2011 - 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

For the nearly 4 decades, the Unitarian Church's Plant, Book and Bake Sale has signaled the beginning of Spring for area residents. Scott Race and Melissa Holden have stepped up to serve as co-chairmen for this year's 39th Annual event on Saturday, April 16 -- 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This fund-raiser has become such a popular community event that the church is sometimes identified as the "Plant Sale Church."

Vegetable seedlings and decorative garden plants are donated from members' local gardens along with houseplants and garden-related items. We also carry annual varieties from a local florist as well. These will be displayed for sale in the fellowship area of the church. The book sale is located in the downstairs hall, accessible by stairs. Library-style, double-sided book shelves on rollers display the large variety of books arranged by categories: fiction, biography, self-help, etc., plus cook books, children's books, games and puzzles, and so much more.

The bake sale offers home-made breads, pies, rolls, cookies, jellies and jams and a place for visitors to visit with one and another to enjoy the refreshments. Doors open promptly at nine o'clock. Hundreds of eager amateur gardeners and accomplished green thumbs have made the Unitarian Plant Sale the first event on their Spring calendars. Won't you stop in, too?

We took some pictures during the Plant Sale a few years ago, and we've prepared a slide show that we hope you might enjoy.

Tables Full of Baked Goods

In our Heritage Room, tables are filled with baked goods. On Friday evening, members and friends will begin bringing in cakes and breads, pies and cookies and jellies and jams. By 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, the space is simply filled to overflowing. And the baked goods are always the first to sell out.

Standing in Line in the Rain

People will be standing in line, even in the rain, waiting for our doors to open. After years of experience, the people of Quincy have learned to be right here, very early, on Plant Sale Saturday. It is the best chance they will have to get the best of the best.
